Six-month ban for coach Odoi Mohammed

Prince United coach Odoi Mohammed has been suspended from carrying out his function for six months, three of which is suspended in GFA competitions by the Disciplinary Committee of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.

Odoi has also been fined GH¢100.00, 50% of the fine sum is suspended. He was facing a charge of improper conduct in relation to the GARFA Division Three match involving Prince United and Rot Weiss FC on 26 January 2012.

The suspension applies to all GFA club competition matches for which Odoi will be eligible.

Case: Coach Odoi Mohammed was charged with misconduct for a breach of Articles 35(1), 35(2), 39(7)(a) and 39(7)(b) of the GFA Regulations in respect of the match Prince United and Rot Weiss FC. It was alleged that immediately referee Abrahim Jackson whistled for the end of the match, Coach Odoi Mohammed rushed to the field of play and physically assaulted and abuse and used insulting words and behaviour towards the match officials

Case: It is further alleged that Coach Odoi Mohammed breach of Articles 35(1), 35(2), 39(7)(a) and 39(7)(b) of the GFA Regulations included a threat of harm and future harm to the referees when you threatened to visit and deal with them at their homes ("particular two")

Findings

The Committee finds that Odoi Mohammed was culpable on his own admission in spite of his initial denial in his written statement. The Committee also took notice of the involvement of the Police in this case which averted mayhem and wish to commend officers of the Darkuman Police Station.

The Committee is satisfied that Odoi Mohammed has breach the GFA Regulation Articles 35(1), 35(2), 39(7) and 39(7)(b).

Decision

In accordance with the punishments set out under Article 39 of the GFA Regulations, the seriousness of the offence and the plea for mitigation, the Committee decides as follows:

1. That Odoi Mohammed, Coach of Prince United, is hereby suspended from coaching Prince United or any other football club in Ghana and from attending any football match organized and/or sanction by the Ghana Football Association or any of its affiliates bodies for a period of six (6) months, three (3) of which months is hereby suspended on his plea for mitigation.

2. That the three (3) months suspension takes effect from the 13th day of April 2012 to the 12th day of July, 2012.

3. That in addition, Odoi Mohammed, Head Coach of Prince United, shall refund the amount of Eight Hundred and Fifty Ghana (GH¢850.00) being cost of the match referees’ medical expenses and lost items.

4. That Odoi Mohammed is hereby fine an amount GH¢100.00 payable to the RFA, 50% of the fine sum is hereby suspended on his plea for mitigation.

5. That Odoi Mohammed shall pay both the amount of Eight Hundred and Fifty Ghana (GH¢850.00) and the fine Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢50.00) from point (3) and (4) above within one (1) month on or before 13th day of May, 2012.

6. That failure on the part of Odoi Mohammed to pay any of the amounts in (5) above, he shall automatically be liable to a further suspension from coaching Prince United or any other football club and from attending all football matches organized and/or sanction by the Ghana Football Association or any of its affiliates bodies for a period two (2) years.

7. That Odoi Mohammed should take immediate steps to resolve the Police action instituted against him.
