Rivalry and pride

The rivalry clash of the two big clubs tips off the final day matches of the lucrative Top-4 competition.

Though the result of Sunday’s game means basically nothing to determining the tournament’s winner, it would be a game for pride as run away champions; Asante Kotoko seeks to complete the double over their fiercest rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak.

The battle at the Coronation Park on Sunday will see the Porcupine Warriors crowned champions of the four-team tournament at the expense of the Phobians who have woefully failed to translate their league form to the competition.

Asante Kotoko rallied from a goal down to beat Hearts 3-1 in the first game a result the Phobians are seeking to overturn.

The Phobians winless after five games and placed bottom of the table have only managed two points from a maximum of 15 points so far, a rather poor result by their high standards.

A win for Hearts of Oak would placate their disheartened following and save coach Mitko Dobrev of some pressure on his fate while for the Porcupine Warriors, aside completing a double, it would be sweet victory and a crowing moment.

In the other game at the Robert Mensah Park, Heart of Lions take on Berekum Arsenals.

The result of the game would also not alter the title direction of the Top-4 but will determine who finishes second at the end of the competition.

Lions presently hold onto the second spot while the Gunners are holed up third and the game can go either way considering the form shown by both sides in the competition but the Lions are tipped to be victors.

The Top-4 competition is played among the first four clubs of the premier league at the end of every soccer season.

Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions all past winners and Berekum Arsenals are competing for honours in the 1.4 billion cedi competition.
