Milovan Rajevac expects the Black Stars to improve in their next game at the African Nations Championship after clawing back two goals to salvage a draw against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

Rahim Ayew saved Ghana’s blushes at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake when he scored a brace after the Zebras had taken a two-goal lead after 37 minutes of play in the opening Group B game.

The midfielder pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time before drawing Ghana level in the 67th minute.

Despite the Black Stars showing a strong character to come from behind, Rajevac says, he was unimpressed with the team’s performance.

“This is a good result for my team. Their character was encouraging as they came behind from two goals.

“But I was not impressed with my team’s performance. The players know what is ahead I expect more in our next game,” the Black Stars coach said.

Black Stars captain, Edmund Owusu-Ansah says the team played below par because of their inability to stick to the coaches instructions.

“Zimbabwe is a good side. I am happy with result since this is our first game. We didn’t play to our coach’s instructions, and it really affected us.”

Ghana would enter the next game against Libya on Thursday determined to pull a win. The Libyans slumped to the bottom of the group table after losing their opening game 2-0 to DR Congo.

The African Nations Championship is a tournament designed exclusively for players who play in their domestic leagues.
