Queens arrive for AWC qualifier

Senior women’s team coach, Isaac Paha has drafted in two players from the Under-19 side as Ghana depart Accra for the first leg qualifying tie of the Africa Women Championship in Ivory Coast.

Team coach, Isaac Paha has included Sylla Owusu and Diana Ankomah, both members of Ghana’s Under-19 team, the Black Princesses for the game against the Ivorians.

Ghana’s 18-member playing team arrived in Abidjan at 15:30 GMT after departing Accra on Thursday afternoon for Saturday’s game.

The qualification campaign for the 6th African Women Championship enters the first round stage this weekend as Ghana play away to Ivory Coast in the first leg match after drawing a bye in the preliminary round.

Ghana, yet to win an African Women Championship title would be attempting to secure a place in the finals of the competition to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Queens, ranked Africa’s second best team would play the Ivorians on February 23 in Macoury before hosting their opponents in the return clash at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on March 8.

Ghana took silver in the last competition hosted by Nigeria in 2006 after losing out 1-0 to the host nation in the finals.
