Executives of the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday were granted royal audience by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at his palace.

A day after the King joined people in Kumasi to celebrate Ghana’s half a century of independence from colonial rule, he received the FA delegation at his Manyhia Palace.

The monarch used the hour and a half long meeting to discuss issues and ways of improving the sport with the FA delegation led by its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Other Executive Committee members present were Fred Crentsil, Randy Abbey, George Amoako, C.K. Yeboah and FA general secretary, Kofi Nsiah.

The face of the game has changed since Ghana’s success story at the World Cup and the King apart from extolling the FA for their hard work also tasked the football body to intensify its development projects including youth football and the training of coaches.

During the meeting, the Asantehene implored the FA to ensure better management practices in the running of the game.

Commenting on the domestic game, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated that a level playing field would have to be provided to ensure that the winner of the championship wins on merit.

On the operations of the FA, the King entreated the delegation to spread their work to the doorsteps of all stakeholders nationwide.

With expectations raised and aside the kingly commendations and counselling received from the King, the Asantehene charged the FA to ensure Ghana’s success as the country prepares to host the 2008 African Cup of Nations as he also promised to support the Ghana Football Association.
