Election fever is building in Sudan as Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi makes a first-time attempt to win a slot on the Confederation of African Football's Executive Committee.

Delegates have gathered in Khartoum for the Caf 33rd Ordinary General Assembly on 23 February as elections dominate the agenda.

The Ghana FA President believes Ghana's recent progress both on and off the field can advance the nation's representation at the highest decision making level of the continental football governing body.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin and Hima Souley, the former Niger FA boss are contesting the Zone West B slot. And Nyantakyi is fully confident he can clinch the seat that has remained vacant following the retirement Sey Memene of Togo.

"Ghana has made enough progress over the years and given the continent a presence on the world stage. Certainly, we must be doing something right to have been able to bring the game to such levels. Getting a representation at the major decision making level would only further contribute to the development of the African game," Nyantakyi said.

"We have been working on getting on the Executive Committee and that would be decided by the delegates from the continent. I am excited about our chances and hope it goes well."

Ghana football has been on the rise since Kwesi Nyantakyi took over as the administration of the game, leading the Black Stars to two impressive World Cups in 2006 and 2010.

Ghana also won Africa's first U-20 World Cup title when the Black Satellites beat Brazil two years ago in the final in Egypt.

Several other positions are up for grabs when the Caf elections are held on Wednesday.
