Nyantakyi elected interim Wafu President

Kwesi Nyantakyi has been elected as the Interim President of the sub-regional football body, the West African Football Union (Wafu).

The sub-regional took the decision yesterday at its General Assembly in Banjul, Gambia after voting at the one-day assembly as Wafu suspended its Executive Committee in Banjul on Saturday and appointed an interim executive committee.

He takes over from Nigerian, Amos Adamu.

The post has remained vacant since Adamu's suspension for corruption charges by world football's governing body FIFA.

Nyantakyi, who is an Executive Committee member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and seeking a re-election for the Presidency of the Ghana Football Association will preside over the seven-member interim executive committee until their next meeting in Zurich.

The other members of Wafu are: Augustine Senghore (Senegal), Hamadou Cisse (Mali), Idris Diallo (Ivory Coast), Seedy Kinteh (Gambia), Theodore Sawadogo (Burkina Faso) and Jose Lobato (Guines Bissau).

The West Africa Football Union (Wafu) is an association of the football playing nations in West Africa.
