Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp is excited to welcome Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari back to the club after the African Nations Cup.

Sulley, the Pompey club’s record signing had been away for close to a month on national duty as the Nations Cup got underway last month in Ghana.

The Ghanaian midfielder’s return is expected to improve the club’s league fortunes as Redknapp hopes to secure a place in Europe.

"It's especially good to have Muntari back. He had a terrific African Cup campaign and all four of them are big players for us," Redknapp said.

Redknapp is keenly waiting to see the partnership between Sulley Muntari and January signing, Lassana Diarra from Arsenal.

"But I can hardly wait to see Muntari linking up with our other new lad Lassana Diarra in midfield. Diarra, as I've always said is going to be a top, top class talent.”

Sulley Muntari after an impressive Nations Cup debut for Ghana bagged three goals in six games.

The Ghana midfielder also finished the competition with an MVP award and a selection in the Africa All-Star team selection announced by the Confederation of African Cup Football.
