Central Region recorded a 3-2 victory in a penalty shootout over Upper East after an entertaining 2-2 draw in regulation time, as both sides bowed out of the MTN Elite U19 Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Wednesday.

The result means both teams have been eliminated from Group B, with Central Region finishing fourth on five points from four matches, while Upper East managed just one point from the same number of games.

Upper East took an early lead through Webonga Eric in the 13th minute, but their advantage was short-lived as Kenneth Boateng equalised almost immediately in the 14th minute. The northern side regained the lead through Mundasidu Seidu, before Yaw Yeboah Dasman struck again for Central to level the score and force a penalty shootout.

In the ensuing shootout, Upper East faltered as Maribtor Isaac, Davulom Andy and Kyei Kelvin all missed their attempts. Central Region converted three of their kicks through Emmanuel Kwame Boakye, Kwesi Agyekum Jnr and Daniel Hutchful Tawiah to seal the win and collect two points, their final tally in the group.

With Volta Region having completed their fixtures, attention now shifts to the highly anticipated clash between Greater Accra and Ashanti Region, which will determine the Group B winner in Wednesday’s final match at the FIFA Pitch at the Technical Centre in Prampram.

Running from October 23 to November 2, 2025, the MTN Elite U19 Championship features ten regional teams from across Ghana, offering a vital platform for young footballers to display their skills, gain invaluable experience, and attract the attention of national team selectors and professional scouts.

Proudly powered by MTN Ghana, the championship reinforces the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) commitment to youth football development by providing a structured and sustainable pathway from grassroots to the professional level — nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.
