Medeama keep Ghana's hopes alive in Africa

Medeama fly Ghana's flag in the CAF club-competitions after a weekend where two other sides failed to make the next stage of qualifying.

Medeama, making their continental debut are through to the last 16 of the Confederation Cup after advancing from the first round stage courtesy a 4-2 aggregate win over Moroccan side MAS Fez despite losing 2-1 in the return leg on Saturday.

Four sides - Asante Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea, Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama - entered the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.

Domestic champions, Kotoko were the big losers in the Champions League competition.

The Porcupine Warriors were the first to fall by the wayside in the Champions League in the preliminary round as Chelsea followed up next at the first round stage.

Chelsea, who two season's ago reached the group stage failed to join the 16 winners who now advance to the second round of qualifying.

Dwarfs, also participating in the Confederation Cup were eliminated over the weekend.

The nations hopes now rest with Medeama, who will meet Zambia's ZESCO United in the next round.
