And just how much support could the Black Stars draw, revered South African leader, Nelson Mandela says he’s supporting the Ghana national team.

Madiba, as he is called has joined the rest of the continent and the diaspora to back the Black Stars to achieve success ahead of the quarter-final clash against Uruguay today at the Soccer City Stadium.

A statement signed by the former South African President to the Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association read: “On the historic occasion of the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Africa, it is a great pleasure to see that Ghana has reached the quarter finals.

“We join everybody else on the continent and in the diaspora in wishing you success in the tournament going forward.”

The exit of five other African representatives during the group stages of the World Cup has left Ghana as the sole African side and they are now on the brink of getting into the semi-finals of the World Cup, which would the first by a team from the continent if they beat Uruguay.
