The Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League kicked off last weekend across the country. Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies faltered in their first match of the season after throwing away a lead to draw 1-1 with Northern Ladies following a late charge from Mary Owusu in the 85th minute of the contest at the Ohene Ameyaw Park. The big winners on the day were Kumasi based Supreme Ladies who put five passed Candy Soccer Academy at the Kokooase Park at Bantama. The teams will step out again this weekend in search of a smooth ride on Match Day Two. Read on for the Preview of matches in the Northern Zone.

CANDY SOCCER VS FABULOUS LADIES

The Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa will host its first ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League game this weekend when Dormaa Candy Soccer Academy clash with Fabulous Ladies. Fabulous Ladies squandered a golden opportunity to begin their season with three points, letting a 2:1 lead slip as they lost 3-2 against Dreamz Ladies. The visitors scored twice in the last 30 minutes to defeat the “Soccer Ladies” 3:2 at home. Candy Soccer also succumbed to a heavy 5:0 loss to Supreme Ladies in Kumasi in their first ever outing in the elite Division. Coming up against an even more potent attack of Fabulous Ladies this week will mean the newbies will be pushed to the limit again. Candy Soccer Academy who got promoted from the second tier this season must work off their socks to register their first win in the season as they sit at the foot of the Northern Zone table.

PRISONS LADIES’ VS AMPEM DARKOA LADIES

The Bono derby is here again - and Prisons Ladies will be looking to entrench themselves in the top four early when they host holders Ampem Darkoa Ladies on Matchday 2. Prisons kicked off their campaign with an important point away at Pearlpia Ladies in the opening fixture while Ampem Darkoa Ladies also finished with 1:1 draw at home with Northern Ladies. A game of equals is expected to be churned out as meetings between both sides are usually tough and fiercely contested.

ASHTOWN LADIES’ VS SUPREME LADIES

Ashtown Ladies will lock horns with Supreme Ladies this weekend in another Northern Zone derby at the Bantama Kookoase AstroTurf. Ashtown Ladies will be looking forward to get their first win after picking a vital point away from home on match day 1 while Supreme Ladies aim to continue with their sublime form after scoring five goals on MatchDay 1.  Supreme’s Linda Owusu Ansah who is in top form will headline the fixture after registering two goals on matchday 1 against Northern Ladies.

NORTHERN LADIES’ VS TAMALE SUPER LADIES

The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium is set to come alive this weekend with the first Northern derby when Northern Ladies FC play host to city rivals Tamale Super Ladies. Both sides started the Season with drawn games last weekend.

Derby matches are usually difficult to predict but with the experience of Northern Ladies FC who picked a point in Techiman against Ampem Darkoa Ladies, one can easily conclude that the match slightly tilts towards them – a win for either side pushes them up the table.

DREAMZ LADIES’ VS PEARL PIA LADIES

Pearlpia ladies will be on the road to face Dreamz Ladies in Kumasi. The two sides were in contention for the number one spot in the zone last season but ended 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Although Dreamz Ladies come into the game fresh from their 3:2 victory from Matchday 1 - the team has vowed not to slip up this season. Pearlpia Ladies on the other hand made a false start to the season after drawing 1-1 with Prisons Ladies at home. The Tamale sides come into this fixture with hopes of lifting their performance to made a charge towards the League title.
