Accra Hearts of Oak record their second successive defeat in the Top-4 competition after going down 1-3 to bitterest rivals, Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

The win by the Porcupine Warriors sends them top of the table in the competition after the game between Berekum Arsenals and Heart of Lions was rained off on Saturday.

However, the Phobians after having played two games in the lucrative off-season tournament for the premiership’s top four sides are rooted bottom of table after two defeats.

For Kotoko, the clash offered them the chance to settle a score after losing a league double to their archrivals that also saw them surrender the league title to their.

And incidentally, the venue is the same match centre where the Phobians handed them two successive league defeats within a fourteen day period in the domestic championship.

After a goalless first half, Hearts of Oak looked like maintaining their supremacy over their rivals when the Phobians shot into the lead from an own goal after recess.

Kotoko defender, Prince Anokye turned in a cross by Eric Gawu into his own net in the 49th minute of the second half to give Hearts a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Mohammed Mayei equalised for the Porcupine Warriors before Ahmed Toure doubled up for Kotoko when he made it 2-1 in the 67th minute.

With nine minutes of play remaining, Asante Kotoko put the game beyond the Phobians when substitute Prince Amponsah scored to make it 3-1.

The other match-day-2 fixture involving Berekum Arsenals and Heart of Lions has now been rescheduled for Monday at the same venue, the Coronation Park in Sunyani.

The Top-4 competition is played among the first four clubs of the premier league at the end of every soccer season.

Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions all past winners and Berekum Arsenals are competing for honours in the 1.4 billion cedi competition.

The competition continues on Wednesday, June 6 with the last matches for the first round which pairs Hearts of Oak with Berekum Arsenals at the Robert Mensah stadium while Kotoko clash with Heart of Lions at the Coronation Park.
