A new beginning!, read a banner unfurled by fans of Asante Kotoko in the stands at the Ohene Djan Stadium as their side rode to a 2-0 win over archrivals, Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

And for the Premier League, it was a good advertisement of its quality though it could not have passed for a clash between both sides without any controversy.

Kotoko deservedly ended their two-season wait of beating Hearts in Accra to move third on the standings.

The Phobians made the most touches of the ball, pleasing to the eye but the Porcupine Warriors showed efficiency and made the most out of the opportunities in front of goal.

First-half goals from Ivorian striker Ahmed Toure and Daniel Nii Adjei for Kotoko brought closure to the much-talked about fixture with the rest to be settled in the media.

Victory might have gone their way but Kotoko left their opponents off the hook on countless occasions though Hearts also had some descent chances.

For Hearts, they would have nothing to show off in their centenary year celebrations having been kicked out of the FA Cup and way off the challenge for the league title, but one reminder that the Kotoko fans left them is the message that the banner displayed at the May 9 Stand read.

Events in Accra might have overshadowed other matches on match-day-22 but for supporters of bottom club, B.A. Stars, their 2-0 home win over leaders Berekum Chelsea is such big news that deserves a bit of the attention.

Goals by Prince Attakora-Gyimah and Emmanuel Mintah handed B.A. victory which sees Chelsea’s lead now cut to 12 points with eight games remaining.

Medeama SC failed to take advantage of the numerical strength of Heart of Lions as both sides drew 1-1 at the Tarkwa T&A Park.

Jacob Abbey put the home side in the lead but Gladson Awako rounded three players of Medeama including the goalkeeper to slot in the equaliser.

Aduana Stars managed a 1-0 win over All Stars at the Golden City Park. King Faisal were stunned at home as Liberty Professionals nicked a 1-0 victory courtesy a Kelvin Kwapoh strike.

Real Tamale United gave their hopes of premiership football next season a boost by beating Mighty Jets 1-0 in an all-relegation fixture.

New Edubiase and Ebusua Dwarfs played out a goalless draw game at the Gyemfis Park.
