Aside competing for laurels at the All African Games competition this July, coach of the male Olympic team, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio hopes to use the tournament as a preparatory ground for Ghana’s remaining Olympic qualifiers.

Ghana kicked off the FIFA men’s Olympic qualifying series over the weekend with a 2-3 defeat in Abuja to Nigeria after being reduced to ten men when attacker, Haminu Draman was shown the red card at a time the scoreline stood at 2-2.

However, after a game in the qualifying campaign to Beijing 2008, the Black Meteors would have the All African Games competition coming up in July to think about as the Olympic qualifier takes a break till August.

Seeded in Group A of the football tournament in the All African Games, Ghana will battle group opponents South Africa, Tunisia and Cameroon for honours.

Though medal hopefuls for the competition, Ghana coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio is looking at improving his team with the competition.

“I think the All African Games would be used as a training ground to prepare for the round-robin of the Olympic qualifiers and I think it is a good preparation for us.

“I think all the games would be very difficult but then I can say that we have at least one training section which is going to improve our performance and give us quite an exposure,” Jones says.

The Black Meteors will kick off in Group A when they play Cameroon on July 10 before taking on South Africa three days later.

Ghana will play Tunisia in her last group game on July 16.

Ghana edged out Nigeria in the qualifying campaign to secure a place at the All African Games men’s football competition.
