Hearts of Oak gave their title chase greater impetus on Sunday after beating Wa All Stars 3-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Glo Premier League.

The Phobians have now leapfrogged AshantiGold to second place as the Miners do not play until Thursday and the win will serve as a big boost ahead of next Sunday's meeting with rivals and leaders, Asante Kotoko.

Former Ghana regular Laryea Kingston put Hearts in front from the spot when he sent goalkeeper Robert Dabou the wrong way in the 32nd minute.

James Abban on the stroke of halftime scored the second goal for Hearts when he connected a shot across from the far post.

Hearts finished the opening half 2-0 in front and returned from the break much stronger.

But All Stars took control of the game, playing a greater part of the game after the hour mark in the half of the home team.

All Stars continued to pile the pressure as they attempted to pull a goal back but they were soon undone when Sadat Karim unleashed a shot from outside the box which went past goalkeeper Dabou to crown a victory for Hearts.

Hearts are now 10 points off the top going into the game with Kotoko in Kumasi.
