There was enough pomp in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, as Hearts of Oak lifted the first Glo Premier League trophy.

On a day ordained for crowning the new champions, Hearts played out a goalless draw match with city rivals, Great Olympics which signaled the start for celebrations ahead of their coronation.

The Phobians went up the dais to pick their championship medals to cheers as they prepared for the biggest moment.

The captain Hassan Mohammed lifted the trophy - Hearts' 20th league success - from FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi, as the large crowd at the Ohene Djan Stadium burst into ecstasy.

Hearts, also picked up a cash prize of GHC 10,000.

The trophy is crowned by a 110m football made of pure optical crystal with sand blasted details.

The stem is made of golden aluminum cut-out modified one.

With the trophy now in their custody, Hearts players took a lap of honour to show off their new latest addition to their trophy cabinet.

A long season which started on a blistering note saw the Phobians lose steam during the second round of the league.

The Phobians struggled to win the title having remarkably surrendered a 14-point lead at the beginning of the second round and had gone on a nine-game winless run before the final day match.

A change in technical direction saw Nii Noi Thompson take over from Serbian, Kosta Papic, but the new man had to wait till the last day before he could produce a win. And that win brought the title.

Hearts' 20th league title had been in sight and against Sporting Mirren, the Phobians turned up to crown a season filled with frustrations as they won 2-0 to win the competition on 52 points.

And the victory tasted sweet for them as they beat their bitterest rivals, Kotoko to the title especially on the final day.
