Asamoah Gyan has set for himself an ambitious target of competing for trophies for both club and country.

The Ghana striker recently signed a club record deal that saw him join Sunderland from French side Rennes and is awaiting his debut game in the English league.

Gyan has enjoyed a great year inspiring Ghana into the final of the Africa Cup of Nations before his rise to world fame at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa where he also endured heartache following his last-gasp penalty miss against Uruguay that cost the Black Stars a semi-final place.

But the 24 year-old striker is putting behind him that miss as he looks to ahead to a new challenge, starting with his move to Sunderland.

"Playing in England is a dream to many players, so I'm happy to be there. It’s a big stage and I’m looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead. I know it won't be easy but I will work twice as hard in order to achieve my goals. But first I have to adapt to the conditions. After I signed, I had to travel with the national team to Swaziland for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. But sure, I’m looking forward to the challenge and a change of environment," Gyan told Fifa.com.

Gyan admits he needs to improve and be consistent to help him aid Ghana and club, Sunderland's trophy ambitions.

"First of all, I want to help both Ghana and my new club win trophies. I can only do well if I’m winning things at club and international level. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. The most important thing for me is to improve and mature as a player. Consistency is important."
