Asamoah Gyan is optimistic about Ghana's chances at the World Cup which starts next week in South Africa.

The striker will be playing in his consecutive finals after becoming the first player to score Ghana's debut World Cup goal four years ago in Germany.

Gyan, 24, is counting on Ghana's many attributes to aid a successful campaign at the World Cup.

"The Ghana team are a united one. We don't put anyone ahead of anyone, we are a team. When we are on the field, we play our football. For us that is the most important thing. We make sure that we don't put pressure on any individuals," the striker said.

With a build up hit by a couple of injuries, with the most notable being the injury to star midfielder Michael Essien, Gyan is still confident that the Black Stars can rise to the occasion without the Chelsea midfielder.

For Gyan, who has scored 17 times for Ghana at the senior level, the Black Stars can take inspiration from their performance at January's African Nations Cup in Angola where an injury-ravaged side without Essien and other key personnel still finished as runners up.

"We have an all-round team," he said. "I'll take you back to Angola where we lost some players but the team was able to make the final. As a group we are okay but we lost him (Essien) so we just have to concentrate on the future."
