Milovan Rajevac expects to get Ghana’s campaign at the African Nations Championship off to a good start when the Black Stars come up against Zimbabwe today in Group B.

The two-week tournament which is designed exclusively for players who play in their domestic leagues kicked off on Sunday in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, where the host nation lost 0-3 to Zambia.

But in Bouake, the bright start to the maiden competition is expected to be maintained when the Black Stars play the Zebras, who initially threatened to boycott their trip to the West African nation because of a dispute over allowances and appearance fees.

Having already challenged his players to make the most of the opportunity at hand, Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac expects his side to raise the bar in Monday’s opening group game after coming through a successful build up to the tournament.

“These are the best players on the scene and each one of them has a job to do.

“I am satisfied with the effort and behaviour of the players. That was our goal and I think they have shown good qualities,” the Ghana coach said.

“They (players) know what is expected. They must be proud to put on the jersey.”

Despite his hopes of a seeing Ghana stage a good show, Rajevac is not downplaying the strength of their opponent.

“Every side that manages to get to a championship has the potential to win it. We would to be clear on this and not underestimates their abilities.”

Ghana’s game against the Zebras is the first in Group B with the clash between Libya and DR Congo scheduled for the evening.
