Ghana became African champions for the third time after Ransford Osei's double in both halves in Kigali proved enough to defeat Cameroon in the final of 16th Africa Youth Championship.
The Black Satellites beat Cameroon 2-0.
The last time the Black Satellites won the silverware in this competition was a decade ago and narrowly missed out in the 2003 finals - Ghana’s last berth at the final - yet Sellas Tetteh’s men joined the list of successful Under-20 sides of 1993 and 1999 to win gold.
After a strong start from Cameroon, seeking a second title themselves, Ghana were the more dangerous side going close at goal on two occasions through Gladson Awako in an entertaining final.
But it took just one goal in the opening half to shape the destination of the title after Samuel Inkoom had dribbled his marker on the byline and dragged a pass back for Osei to score in the 24th minute.
Ghana had more openings and could have doubled their lead but Osei was late to meet a ball across the face of goal by Inkoom.
Yet the threat Cameroon posed was still evident when on the stroke of halftime, Ghana goalkeeper, Daniel Adjei was saved by an Inkoom clearance after he had spilled an aerial ball.
Back from recess, the Young Lions worked tirelessly through Jacques Zoua, Brice Owona and Patrick Ekeng Ekeng to draw level but the Ghana backline defended brilliantly.
Cameroon looked to have found the equaliser when a cross from the right side of attack deflected off the body of Inkoom and was heading towards goal with Daniel Adjei already beaten but Jonathan Mensah scooped the ball off the line.
Dominic Adiyiah came close to adding the second but his effort was blocked by the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
Ghana finally put the game beyond the determined Young Lions with Ransford Osei on hand to tap in from close range, a pass by Inkoom in the 80th minute.
And that represented the striker's seventh goal at the Championship.
The goal calmed nerves as Ghana instantly relaxed their approach while forcing the Cameroonians to concede the third with the Black Satellites bench not making any changes.
As time ticked after the second goal, it was Ghana who continued to carve out chances as the match reached its conclusion but the celebrations had already started when the game went into time added on.
