Despite battling with troubles on the domestic front, Ghana's FC Nania managed to scrape past those uncomfortable moments to grind out victory at the inaugural E.K. Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup international football tournament in India.

On Tuesday, FC Nania won the Gold Cup after beating Viva Kerala of India 3-0 in the finals of the eight-team competition where they exhibited good form.

The team owned and managed by former Ghana captain, Abedi Ayew Pele on Friday arrived from India with their trophy to rousing welcome from the club’s followers who met the team at the national airport in the capital, Accra.

Some two hours before the team touched down at 12:15 GMT, hundreds of club supporters clad in FC Nania’s blue and white colours danced to herald the team’s arrival.

FC Nania aside winning the competition also dominated the various award categories at the end of the tournament with individual players picking up trophies and medals for their performances.

Ebenezer Nartey’s five-goal haul at the tournament won him the Top scorer award while team-mate, Charles Boateng was named the Player of the Tournament.

Team goalkeeper, Kassim Alhaji picked the best goalkeeper award with Annor Walker, coach of the side receiving the coach of the tournament prize.

The club was also voted the eight-team competition’s best side.

Aside picking up awards and savouring the moment, FC Nania gave back to society with the donation of 20 million cedis ($2,200) for the cost of the operation of a woman who delivered conjoined twins at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital in Accra.

According to team officials, the donation which offsets the bills of the family is part of the club’s social responsibility.
