A number of unheralded players have emerged at the Africa Cup of Nations, grabbing their fair share of the spotlight.

One of such players is Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda who picked up a man-of-the match award in the Black Stars' 2-0 quarter-final victory against Cape Verde Islands.

The goalkeeper was not expected to be a first-choice prior to the competition but he has risen as Ghana advanced into the semi-finals and his performances do not surprise teammate Kwadwo Asamoah.

Asamoah says the team is not over reliant on the AshantiGold shot-stopper but believes Fatau plays his part as a team-player.

“I think football is not about only one person, he is also part of the team. So anything that he does to help the team is all about helping the team, it not about individuals,” Asamoah said in response to a question on Tuesday about whether Ghana has been so reliant on the goalkeeper at the Nations Cup.

“We are all doing our best. I couldn’t believe it because I have played with him since 2008 at the African Cup of Nations. I know what Fatau can do and this is the time and the opportunity to show what he’s got.

“Actually, I am not surprised about his performance. Football is about eleven players, I would give that credit to him but we are all doing our best.”

Fatau, after conceding two goals in Ghana's opening 2-2 draw with DR Congo kept clean sheets in wins against Mali, Niger and Cape Verde.
