FA operations gets Goldfields approval

Headline sponsor of the Black Stars, Gold Fields Ghana says the mining company is comfortable with the usage of funds by the Ghana Football Association for its intended purposes.

The mining company today issued a statement, reacting to reports in the local media about the call for a probe by the new government into the managing of the of funds by the FA.

A portion of the Gold Fields Ghana statement signed by Dr Toni Aubynn, Director - Corporate Affairs and Social Development reads: “we would like to assure the paper and all like-minded people, that all disbursements under the sponsorship agreement is subject to regular auditing by reputable independent external auditors. The Mining Firm has employed the services of an external auditor that audits the disbursement and usage of funds between the two parties on a periodic basis.”

Gold Fields Ghana signed up as the headline sponsor of the Black Stars in 2005, with the mining firm announcing a then record $3 million sponsorship.

Three years after, the partnership was renewed for yet another three years, worth $3.7 million in cash to the Black Stars.
