CAF returns to its birth place

The Confederation of African Football returns to its birth place in Khartoum as the three-day 28th General Assembly begins in the Sudanese capital.

And as CAF celebrates its 50th anniversary with series of activities in 2007, the General Assembly which defines the organisations general policies would hold a forum on the future of African.

Ghana is represented at the Congress by FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Fred Crentsil - Executive Committee member and General Secretary, Kofi Nsiah.

The three-day meeting which commenced on February 10, would look at the Financial Report of the previous year and Activity for the year.

The Congress would also see the GFA’s General Secretary, Kofi Nsiah join other colleagues in the General Secretaries workshop for CAF member associations to be organised by the football body.

CAF would also honour 30 best players voted amongst Africa’s best 30 players of the last 50 years by fans in a poll conducted by the continent’s sport body, the Confederation of African Football.

Ghana had five of her players- Abedi Ayew Pele, Michael Essien, Tony Yeboah, Abdul Razak and Samuel Osei Kuffour, voted amongst the top 30 which was topped by Cameroon legend, Roger Milla.

The Confederation of African Football – CAF, selected a large poll of players to be nominated for the best African player of the last 50 years as the sport body celebrates its anniversary this year.

CAF picked 200 players who have made an impact on the continent since its founding in 1957 with the selection based on performances at national and international level.

CAF was founded on February 8, 1957 in Khartoum, Sudan by its founding members: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa.
