Legon Cities produced an exhilarating display on Sunday to overcome leaders Asante Kotoko 3-1 to condemn them to their second home defeat of the season.

The Match Day 26 defeat becomes Asante Kotoko’s second defeat on the row within a space of 7 days following a 2-1 loss to Real Tamale United last weekend.

Coach Maxwell Konadu side took an early lead as they scored from the spot in the 17th minute through Michel Otu. The Referee pointed to the spot after Christopher Nettey brought down Jonah Attuquaye in the penalty box.

The Royals increased the tally 10 minutes later when Hans Kwofie smashed home the second goal from a great team effort. Midfielder Mudasiru Salifu gave Asante Kotoko a glimmer of hope after scoring on the stroke of half time to reduce the deficit but that wasn’t enough as Legon Cities fired from all cylinders in the second half to snatch a famous victory against the Porcupine Warriors.

Back from recess, Legon Cities restored their two goal lead as they scored in the 47th minute through Hans Kwofie to make it 3-1. Jonah Attuquaye brilliantly went through a forest of legs before laying a delicious pass which was expertly converted by Kwofie for the third goal – his second of the day.

Asante Kotoko still lead the table with 52 points - eight-points richer than second placed Bechem United who play Karela United on Monday.

The win has taken Maxwell Konadu’s side to an appreciable 8th place in the League standings after 26 matches.
