Asante Kotoko right back Christopher Nettey on Wednesday, scored his first goal of the season for the reds to give them a 1-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs in their Ghana Premier League matchday 7 outstanding match.

The former Attram De Visser player scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute to settle the contest in favour of the Porcupine Warriors.

The win lifts Asante Kotoko to third in the table, just one-point adrift league leaders Karela United.

Asante Kotoko struggled to impose themselves on their opponents as Ebusua Dwarfs played a compact game to keep Kwame Opoku, Fabio Gama and Emmanuel Gyamfi at bay at the Cape Coast stadium.

The first half failed to produce any goal, with Brazilian Fabio Gama’s header in the 35th minute missing the target by inches.

The second half was no different from the first, with Kotoko going all out for the win. Kwame Opoku missed a glorious chance to give Asante Kotoko the lead but the former Nkoranza Warriors striker missed the opportunity. He took on two players and had only the goalkeeper at his mercy but was let down by his final ball as the kick flashed in front of the goal post.

Asmah delivered a fine cross into the box and Nettey headed into the net for the match winner in the 70th minute.

Asante Kotoko protected the lead to extend their unbeaten run in the league under interim coach Johnson Smith to five games.

Ebusua Dwarfs remain in 11th place in the League table.
