Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is hoping for a Black Stars victory over Australia at the World Cup on Saturday to aid the team’s progression from the group stage.

The Black Stars got off to a great start, beating Serbia 1-0 in Group D and are aware that another win could certainly send them into the next round, a feat they managed four years ago.

Amid the hopes of following up with another fine performance, the Ghana captain expects a difficult clash against the Socceroos who were sent crushing in their 4-0 defeat to Germany in the first game.

Appiah, who came off the bench in Ghana’s first game, says the Black Stars will rue their luck if they dare underestimate the task ahead.

“Australia is a very good team and we won’t be deceived by their heavy defeat to Germany. At this level of football, it is very dangerous to get complacent and we are aware of that,” Appiah told www.ghanafa.org on Wednesday in Rustenburg.

“It will be a different game against us because they want to come back from their defeat. We know they will be dangerous but we are focused and determined.”

A second round place could be up in the bag if Ghana clinches a second straight win in the competition. And that seems to fuel the drive of Stephen Appiah and his mates in the Ghana team.

“We know what beating the Australians means and our mission is to beat them,” the Black Stars captain said.
