Reds open six-point lead

The three rescheduled match-day-17 league games all produced wins as the home team’s only enjoyed the spoils.

Asante Kotoko have opened a six-point lead at the top after beating Berekum Arsenals at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Wednesday and still have a game in hand.

The Porcupine Warriors went on to beat the Gunners 2-0 in their rescheduled match-day-17 game.

After observing a minute silence for the their former public relations officer, Kwame Owusu-Ansah, who passed away last week, Kotoko, soon showed their intent on winning the game as they put the Gunners under pressure.

Fourteen minutes into the game and Kotoko opened the scoring with Francis Coffie scoring the goal.

The Reds decided the tie on the stroke on halftime when captain, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour doubled their lead to make it 2-0.

At the El-Wak Stadium in Accra, Zaytuna FC enhanced their chances of trying to stay above the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over third placed, Heart of Lions.

Dan Larbi’s goal with five minutes to regulation time separated both sides in the game which witnessed two red cards.

Both sides finished the game with ten players following red cards to Shadrack Kyei of Zaytuna and substitute Hans Kwofie for Lions with just three minutes to end the game.

Bottom club, Great Olympics recorded their third win of the season at the expense of Kessben FC at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

The Wonder Boys rallied back from a goal down to win the match 2-1 against Kessben FC, who finished the match with ten players after Moro Ibrahim was sent off for bad challenge on Labaran Deen of Great Olympics.

Edmund Owusu Peprah shot Kessben into the lead, five minutes into the game after connecting a pass from Douglas Nkrumah.

However, their lead only lasted for some 60 seconds as Tanko Ibrahim drew level for Great Olympics.

As the time ticked for the end of the first half, Great Olympics jumped into the lead through an Abdul Basit goal, which proved to be the match winner, though they still languish at the bottom of the table.
