The 2020/21 Women’s Premier League enters match day two this weekend with all 16 teams geared up for action after a plethora of action on match day one. Here is a quick preview of what to expect on match day 2 in the Northern Zone.

Northern Ladies v Kumasi Sports Academy

This game comes off on Friday, January 22, 2020at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale. Mukarama Abdulai who scored a hattrick on match day one against Ashtown ladies in their season opener is expected to repeat her heroics against Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies on Friday. The visitors must be on guard to avoid an embarrassing defeat. Playing at home, Northern Ladies stand tall against their opponents and would fight for all three points but, the possible absence of striker Mukarama Abdulai can affect their performance. Mukarama is heading back to the States to continue her education.

Ashtown Ladies v Prisons Ladies

After a disappointing start to the season, Prisons Ladies will be eager to hit the ground running as they chase their first win on the road. Matchday 1. The ‘’service ladies’’ lost their safest pair of hands, Azume Adams to an injury and lost heavily to Supreme Ladies at the Sunyani Coronation Park. But their story is not different from their host, Ashtown Ladies who tasted the venom of Northern Ladies in a 3-1 loss at home. The last meeting between the two teams saw Ashtown Ladies succumbing to a 2-1 loss in the 2019/2020 season. Captain Rita Okyere and Abigail Tutuwaah dazzled for Prisons Ladies on the opening day of the season while Grace Acheampong handed Ashtown Ladies a consolation goal.

Supreme Ladies v Fabulous Ladies

Supreme Ladies’ season got off to a flying start, winning 2-1 away to Prisons ladies on match day one. Admittedly some wasteful finishing from Sandra Owusu Ansah is  a cause for concern but, the team should be able to create enough chances to bury city rivals, Fabulous Ladies in the match day 2 fixture. Fabulous Ladies also picked a vital away point on match day 1 at the dreaded Utrecht park in Tamale, a result that will spear them on, for the rest of the season. Florence Fosua’s goal made the difference for Fabulous ladies when the two teams met last season. Coming up against a well-motivated supreme Ladies on match day 2 will be an interesting local derby.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies v Pearl Pia Ladies

Neither of these sides were overly inspiring in their performance last week as they both drew on match day 1. Pearl Pia Ladies have always provided a stern test for Ampem Darkoa Ladies. The last encounter at the Ohene Ameyaw Park was a 6 goal thriller where N-Nyimaya Nagbekan, Tracy Twum and Sylvia Akomaa Amankwa came to the party for Ampem Darkoa Ladies with Fatima Iddrissu, Bintu Alhassan and Safia Abdul Rahman making sure the team went back with a point. Coach Baba Nuhu will have a tactical showdown with compatriot Joe Nana Adarkwa who both work at the national U17 (Black Maidens) as Head Coach and Assistant coach, respectively. Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah is expected to shine for the home side while Basira Alhasan headlines the list for the visitors.
