The Women’s Premier League offers up plenty of exciting contests and there is not a misprint at the top of the Northern Zone table as Dreamz Ladies surprisingly top the pack and also hold the record as the only unbeaten side in the Zone. Here is a quick preview what matches in the Northern Zone.

DREAMZ LADIES X AMPEM DARKOA

Dreamz Ladies host Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the Bantama Astro Turf in Kumasi on Match Day four. The host are arguably the biggest winners, leading the Northern Zone table with a 100% winning record and have shown resilience in their fight to stay at the top to preserve their Premier League status.  Their last outing with Supreme Ladies was no different after the match ended 1-2 in their favour. Goal poacher and captain Stella Nyamekye will be crucial to their success in this crunch fixture.  Ampem Darkoa on the other hand, have not had a good start like in previous seasons. They sit 3rd on the league table, with two wins and a loss. Week 3 ended in a hard fought win against Kumasi Sports Academy after Ophelia Amponsah scored in the 90th minute to save her side from losing another game. Dreamz Ladies will hope to continue their winning streak and dominance while Ampem Darkoa Ladies seek to win to catch up as defending champions of the Zone.

KUMASI SPORTS ACADEMY X FC SAVANNAH

FC Savannah Ladies will be on the road as the newbies play as guests to Kumasi Sports Academy in Kumasi. The host will be looking forward to revive their current performance after succumbing to a narrow 1:0 defeat at Ampem Darkoa over the weekend. Captain Naomi Animah and her charges will need to sit up to keep hopes alive in the zone.  Savannah Ladies are approaching this game with all seriousness after a 1:0 defeat to Ashtown Ladies in Tamale. It won’t be all that easy for the debutants, though they look formidable enough to nick one against KUSA - with a strong squad and the nimble-footed Karima Abdulai leading the attack.

ASHTOWN LADIES X PEARL PIA LADIES

Two sides looking to build on a promising start to the season Ashtown Ladies and Pearl Pia Ladies do battle in Kumasi this weekend. The host left it late to pick up 3 points in Tamale over the weekend as they scored in the dying embers through Fidous Yakubu to win on the road. Fidous Yakubu has won 2 player of the match awards and obviously looks set for more accolades this season as the talisman of her side.   Pearl Pia are unbeaten in three games and have exhibited some amazing football packed with creativity under the tutelage of Coach Baba Nuhu. This should be a really good game, between two solid sides who are tactically great on the defensive end and will be coming into the game with a more compact defensive set up.

NORTHERN LADIES X SUPREME LADIES

Northern Ladies aim to record their first win of the 2021/2022 campaign as they prepare for a clash against Supreme Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Friday.

The Northern Lads have been disappointing so far, losing two and drawing with Fabulous Ladies on Match Day three – as they sit at the foot (10th) in the league log. Supreme Ladies who have also started in a disappointing fashion, have won one match and suffered two defeats and currently sit in 8th place in the table. The backline of Northern Ladies looks slightly unstable and would need to play above themselves to get a favourable result in this match. The game is slated for Friday, January 7, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

PRISONS LADIES X FABULOUS LADIES

A crunch fixture is expected on Saturday at the Sunyani Coronation Park where Prisons Ladies play host to Kumasi-based Fabulous Ladies.  Over the weekend, Prisons Ladies picked up a point on the road and will be looking forward to build on their performance from that game. The team sits 4th in the zonal league table with 4 points. The visitors are yet to pick up a win this season but showed real heart to pinch a point at home last time out. It is early days for Prince Acheampong’s side to be written off, but as the League wears on, their focus must be on building momentum for the campaign ahead. This should be a tight game to witness.
