John Mensah hopes to lead Ghana to victory at the Wembley against England today when both countries meet in a friendly.

The game is the first meeting between both countries at senior level and despite the resting of certain players by England, the chance of making history is serving as a real motivator for Mensah.

Ghana's Black Stars will be England’s eighth African opponent, following in the footsteps of Egypt, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Only three of those – Cameroon, Nigeria and Egypt – have played at Wembley.

Yet still, no African side has ever beaten England at Wembley.

For Mensah, the historic meet means much to the Black Stars.

"This is the first time Ghana played England so it is very important to us," Mensah said.

"It will be a historic match because if we win, we make history.”
