Ghana forward Jordan Ayew says the players 'must stay positive and raise our head' in the two remaining group games to have any chance of qualifying to the next stage of Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Black Stars got off to a bleak start to the tournament following a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde at stade Felix Houphouët-Boigny stadium on Sunday and must avoid defeats in the two remaining games against Egypt and Mozambique to stand the chance of making it to the knockout stage of the competition.

Speaking in a post-match press engagement, Jordan remarked that the team’s poor concentration level cost them the win.

''I think we are all disappointed because I think we have the game in our hands. We have always lost concentration at crucial moments, they scored two sloppy goals’’ he said.

‘’As a team we need to back up quickly because we can’t always say it’s a young team, we have played together for two years or more. It’s been three, four years’’. ‘’Obviously it’s a tough night for us and the fans. But we have two more games and we need to stay positive and to raise our head and do it the hard way. We don’t have a choice now, we need to do it the hard way and see the outcome’’ Jordan Ayew added.

Ghana now face a tough task against seven time champions Egypt to breathe life into their campaign. The second group B game is scheduled for 20:00Hrs kick off at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium in Abidjan on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
