Ghana have arrived in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire for the 34th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote D'Ivoire 2023 having departed Kumasi Wednesday morning.
The 40 minute trip was via Air Cote D'Ivoire, the official airline partner of the tournament. The team was met on arrival by a cultural Troup amidst drumming and dancing of the kete, fontomfrom and adowa, a royal court dance-drumming that originates from the Akan people of Ghana.
The Players were clad in different shades of Kente on white short sleeve Kaftan. Kaftan were inherited by cultures throughout Asia and were worn by individuals in Russia (North Asia, Eastern Europe and formerly Central Asia), Southwest Asia and Northern Africa. The Styles, uses, and names for the kaftan vary from culture to culture. While Kente traditionally originates from Bonwire in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Kente refers to a textile, made of handwoven cloth, strips of silk and cotton. In modern day Ghana, the wearing of kente cloth has become widespread to commemorate special occasions, with highly sought kente brands led by master weavers in demand. Kente is also worn in parts of Togo and Ivory Coast by the Ewe and Akan people there.
The Black Stars were later driven to the Pullman hotel in Abidjan where they will be based during the group stage of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.
The Players will later have their first training session in Abidjan as they hit the ground running in readiness for the tournament. The Twenty-seven players that travelled to Abidjan include, Richard Ofori, Joseph Wollacott, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Nicholas Opoku and Salisu Mohammed.
The rest are, Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku, Baba Iddrisu, Elisha Owusu, Abdul Samed Salis, Richmond Lamptey, Majeed Ashimeru, Mohammed Kudus, Andre Ayew, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdoffer, Osman Bukari, Joseph Painstil, Ernest Nuamah, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams and Jonathan Sowah.
Ghana are paired in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
