The Black Satellites wrapped up their campaign at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup with a 2-0 victory over Niger to secure third place at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday. Captain Aziz Misbau was the star of the day, scoring both goals in the second half to lead Ghana to a deserved win.
After a goalless first half filled with tension and end-to-end action, Ghana came into the second period with renewed urgency. Misbau broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after a Nigerien defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. The confident skipper calmly converted the spot-kick to give Ghana the lead.
Minutes later, Misbau sealed the win with a brilliant strike, driving home a powerful shot from close range that left the Niger goalkeeper with no chance. His outstanding performance capped a remarkable tournament for the young forward, who also finished as joint top scorer.
Misbau ended the tournament with three goals, tying with Ivory Coast’s Zakaria Tindano for the golden boot. His consistency and leadership throughout the tournament were vital for Ghana, who bounced back strongly after missing out on a place in the final.
The Black Satellites had suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the semi-finals, but their commanding performance against Niger ensured they left the competition with their heads held high and a bronze medal in hand.
This marks a positive step for Ghana’s U20 team, who will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for future international engagements. The tournament also served as a crucial developmental platform, with several players impressing scouts and fans alike.
