The national U-17 side, the Black Starlets have maintained their unbeaten run at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship after playing out a goalless draw against hosts Burkina Faso in their final Group A fixture in Ouagadougou.
The result ensured that coach Kassim Ocansey’s side finished the group stage without a defeat, recording two victories and a draw from their three matches to collect seven points and top Group A.
The Black Starlets began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Togo before producing a convincing 3-1 win against Benin to secure qualification to the semi-finals. They then held Burkina Faso to a stalemate to conclude their group-stage campaign on a positive note.
Ghana’s impressive run was built on a solid defensive display, with the team scoring four goals and conceding just one across their three matches. Their consistency at both ends of the pitch helped them finish above their Group A rivals.
Despite failing to find the back of the net against Burkina Faso, the Black Starlets achieved their objective of preserving their unbeaten record and finishing top of the group ahead of the knockout stage.
Ghana will now turn their attention to the semi-finals, where they will face the runner-up of Group B. The team must wait for the outcome of the final Group B fixture between Nigeria and Ivory Coast to learn the identity of their next opponents.
With their group-stage campaign completed without a loss, Ocansey’s side will look to maintain their momentum in the semi-finals as they pursue the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship title and qualification for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
