The Black Starlets players and officials, on Monday, received safeguarding education as part of activities at the ongoing WAFU Zone B U17 Championship in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The session was led by WAFU B Safeguarding Officer Bienvenu Sinko, with assistance from WAFU B Head of the Technical Study Group, Adama Guira.

The players were taken through a series of lessons designed to promote their personal development, well-being and safety, with key topics including lifestyle choices, financial management and how to identify and avoid exploitation.

The session also highlighted the importance of making responsible decisions both on and off the pitch, particularly for young footballers navigating the demands and opportunities associated with competitive football.

The Safeguarding Session forms part of efforts to promote safeguarding awareness among players and officials, equipping them with the knowledge to recognise potential risks, protect themselves and make informed decisions throughout their football careers.

For the Black Starlets, the initiative provided an opportunity to learn valuable life skills beyond the game as they continue their campaign at the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

Safeguarding education remains an important component of youth football development, helping to create a safer environment in which young players can develop their talents while understanding their rights, responsibilities and the importance of protecting themselves from abuse and exploitation.
