Vice President Mark Addo, has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) for emerging as champions of the football competition at the recently concluded African University Games. UDS secured the continental title after a commanding 3-0 victory over Lagos State University in the final and will now represent Africa at the upcoming World University Games in China this September.

Mr. Addo gave the commendation when a high-powered delegation from UDS called on the GFA to officially inform the football governing body of their achievement and to seek its support ahead of the global competition.

The visiting delegation was led by UDS Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Elliot Haruna Alhassan, and included their Deputy Director of Finance, Dr. Alhassan Iddrissu, Head of Registry, Mr. Yussif Abdulai, Director of Sports, Mr. Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, Head of the Accra Office, Mr. Ansa Michael and Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Abdul Hayi Moomen.

“Let me say congratulations to the entire UDS team for lifting the flag of Ghana so high at the African University Games,” said Mr. Addo. “You didn’t just win – you dominated. A 3-0 score line in a final speaks volumes of your preparation, discipline and technical quality.”

He also urged the team to channel the same passion and excellence as they prepare to represent Ghana and the continent on the world stage. “We are very proud of you, and we trust that you will carry this momentum to China,” he added. “Go and make Ghana proud again. The whole nation will be behind you, and as an FA, we will support you in our capacity to ensure you make Ghana prouder at the world stage.”

On behalf of the University, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan expressed gratitude to the GFA for receiving them and reiterated their desire to excel at the global tournament. “This is not just a UDS victory, it is a Ghanaian and African triumph. And we are committed to honouring that by preparing well and competing with pride and purpose in China.”

Vice President assured them of the Association’s full support and hinted at potential collaborations to ensure the team’s readiness for the world event.
