Stephen Appiah happy to join Iranian league

Former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah says the popularity of Iranian football is among the reasons that made him sign for Perspolis Football Club.

Appiah has been presented with the number 3 shirt of Perspolis Football Club in Iran after completing a move.

“The popularity and tradition of Perspolis, and its marvelous fans, was the main reason for me to take my career to Asia,” Appiah said as he was unveiled to the press.

“I'm a footballer, I have a lot of energy. I can play and want to be successful. I always love to play and I play with full force. I would do my best for this club and I'm happy with the club's numerous fans.”

The 31-year-old midfielder passed a medical Thursday in Tehran is now a player of Perspolis, who have won 11 league titles and one Asia cup winners’ trophy.

Appiah, announced his retirement from international football in 2010 in order to concentrate on club football in a career which has seen him ply his trade in Italy for clubs like Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Juventus, Bologna and Cesena and Fenerbahce (Turkey), FK Vojvodina(Serbia).
