Returning Black Stars player, Stephen Appiah would join his national teammates in camp today in Tripoli as Ghana begins preparations for Friday’s joint 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier.

Ghana plays Libya in the penultimate Group 5 qualifying game which would be Appiah’s first experience in the qualifying campaign since the joint qualifiers began in June.

The midfielder and other Europe-based teammate will arrive Tuesday as Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac takes his full squad through their first major training later in the day.

Seven of the 21-member squad arrived in Tripoli on Monday while Milovan Rejevac travelled from Accra the same day with Junior Agogo, John Paintsil, Richard Kingson, Kwadwo Poku, Eric Bekoe and Samuel Inkoom.

Also in the travelling party on Monday was goalkeeper George Owu, Issah Gabriel, Agyemang Badu of Berekum and Jonathan Quartey.

The showdown in Tripoli on Friday would be the first competitive fixture for Appiah this year since leading Ghana to glory in a four-nation tournament in November 2007.

The inspirational Ghana captain was included in the side after recovering from an injury that kept him out of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year after struggling with knee ligament injury.

Friday's match is a key encounter for both sides. Ghana lead Libya on goal difference at the head of the Group 5 in African Zone qualifying. Both have nine points from four matches.
