Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew were both edged to the World Cup's best player and best young player prizes by Diego Forlán and Thomas Müller.

Both Black Stars players were shortlisted by Fifa on Friday for the two separate awards at the 2010 World Cup.

Diego Forlán won the best player of the World Cup award ahead of Gyan after scoring some wonderful goals that helped Uruguay become South America's only semi-finalist.

Forlán took 23.4% in the Golden Ball poll organised by Fifa and voted for by journalists. Holland's Wesley Sneijder was second with 21.8% and Spain's David Villa third on 16.9%.

Germany's Thomas Müller beat Ghana's Andre Ayew and Mexico's Giovani Dos Santos to the best young player award.

Also, Müller took the Golden Boot award given to the top scorer under new Fifa rules, using assists and number of minutes played as a tie-breaker despite being level on five goals with Forlán, Sneijder and Villa.
