Claude Le Roy says Ghana’s team remembers him of his last African Cup of Nations title winning side.

The Ghana coach led Cameroon to win the 1988 competition after beating Nigeria by a lone goal in the finals.

However, on Sunday he leads the Black Stars to play a Nigerian team but not in the finals, rather the quarter-final stage.

After watching Ghana produce a great performance in their last game, a 2-0 win over Morocco that ensured a clean sweep of their first-round group, Le Roy likens the Black Stars to the Cameroonian team that won the title some two decades ago.

“This team is so close. I think they are so close to the team that I had in Cameroon.

"In terms of skill and team spirit, this Ghana is very close to winning sides of past years," the Frenchman said.

"This team has the dedication and purpose it needs to progress in this competition."

Le Roy wants to go past the quarter-finals, a stage he has always gotten to at every Nations Cup.

"I have gotten to the quarter-finals in all my previous tournaments. Now the most important task is to get past this quarter-final," he said.

And after that he wants to win his second championship again as the tournament would narrow down to four after Monday.

"I'm dreaming of being champion once more."

Ghana’s dream of reaching the semi-final according to Nigerian press officer, Peterside Idah will be scuppered.

"It's going to be Black Sunday for the Stars," predicted the Nigerian.

Ghana striker, striker Agogo is however relishing the challenge when the Black Stars take on their fierce rivals.

"There's going to be a lot of passion, a lot of hard tackling, but we're ready, the boys are buzzing to get the game started," Junior Agogo added.
