Premiership leaders, Asante Kotoko extend their lead at the summit of the table to seven points after returning to scoring and winning ways in the final round of matches to end the first round of the league.

The Porcupine Warriors picked up a 2-0 home win over Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Stadium to end their run of failing to score in two consecutive drawn games before Sunday’s match.

Goals from Jordan Opoku in the 38th minute and a second after three minutes of play in the second half by the league’s leading scorer, Eric Bekoe, who hit his eleventh goal of the season, sealed victory for Kotoko as the Reds opened a seven-point gap at the top.

Liberty Professionals survived a scare at the Essipong Stadium as a late equaliser saved the blushes of the Dansoman side in their 2-2 draw with Sekondi Hasaacas enabling them to keep their title chase on.

Hasaacas jumped into the lead with goals from Paul Aidoo and Charles Nartey before Nafiu Salifu pulled one back for Liberty. With two minutes left on the clock, Richard Kissi got the important equaliser for the away side as Liberty Professionals left the grounds with a point after having enjoyed such a fine run of wins in recent times.

However, the story was different in Wa for another title pursuers, Heart of Lions, who were humiliated by Wa All Stars 3-0 thus leaving them to still hold onto the third position. Wa All Stars, who have a game in hand, secured the win with goals from Adusei Poku and a brace from Ishmael Fridos.

Yusif Abubakar’s goal in the second half helped Zaytuna FC secure a 1-0 winner over Berekum Arsenals and move out of the bottom three of the table in their game at the El-Wak Stadium. Zaytuna could have gone ahead in the first half but they failed to concert from a spot kick awarded them.

Defeat to Arsenals helped AshantiGold climb to fourth on the table after beating Kessben FC 2-0 at the Len Clay Stadium. Two first half goals from Eric Adu Poku in the 27th minute and another ten minutes later by Alex Asamoah gave the Miners the win over the premiership debutants.

At the Swedru Park, Gamba All Blacks stayed on the winning road after beating King Faisal 1-0 thanks to a first half goal by Daniel Asamoah in the 39th minute.

Defending Champions, Accra Hearts of Oak could not move out of the bottom three as they settled for a goalless draw at the Tema Park in their match against Real Sportive.

Both sides will rue several missed opportunities but for the Phobians, an effort by Ekow Ghansah which cannoned off the side post was the best moment of their game despite having a game in hand.

Bottom placed, Accra Great Olympics remain livid with officiating as Bissi Ibrahim struck a 90th minute equaliser for Tema Youth to deny the Wonder Boys a win at the Ohene Djan Stadium after Paa Joe Kumah had put them in the lead from a spot kick.
