Asante Kotoko’s charge to dislodge Hearts of Oak from the summit of the Glo Premier League standings was given a further boost as the Porcupine Warriors closed down the point difference to just one with the leaders rather having to play on Monday.

The Reds inched closer to the top after nicking a late winner over relegation candidates, Sporting Mirren at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Alex Asamoah, who now leads the scoring chart, added another goal to his tally when he found target for Kotoko in the 88th minute to secure the Porcupine Warriors a hard fought 1-0 victory, a win which puts pressure on the league leaders.

Hearts of Oak would take to the field today in the Glo Premier League knowing that just a point separates them now from their closest rivals, Asante Kotoko in the title chase.

The Phobians who were billed to play All Stars on Sunday had their game rained off and would be back at the Ohene Djan Stadium to push their title dream.

A slump in form has seen Hearts collect 10 points from a possible 30 since the competition entered the second round with their best results coming from two wins and four draws ahead of match-day-26.

Another fixture also rescheduled for Monday due to the heavy rains is the clash at the Anane Boateng Stadium between Kessben FC and Gamba All Blacks.

Despite two matches not coming off on Sunday, other sides were competing for every single point as the league nears its closing stages.

At the Kpando Park, a Stephen Owusu strike helped Heart of Lions to a 1-0 win over AshantiGold as Lions also keep within touching distance for the top spot.

The green side of Sekondi earned the bragging rights as Hasaacas battling to avoid the drop beat Eleven Wise 1-0 in a local derby with Joe Agyemang scoring the match winner.

King Faisal managed to share the spoils with Berekum Arsenals at the dreaded Golden City Park.

Daniel Addo put Faisal in the lead after 30 minutes as the Gunners’ Francis Aggrey missed two spot kicks before his replacement Stephen Amankwah drew Arsenals level.

Real Tamale United improved their hopes of beating the drop after beating Chelsea 2-0 at the Tamale Sports Stadium. Kabiru Imoro and Abdul Salam Alhassan scored both goals for the home side.

Edward Kpodo’s second half goal for Tema Youth cancelled out Latif Salifu’s opener for Liberty Professionals in their 1-1 drawn game at the Tema Park.
