A string of poor runs by Hearts of Oak has allowed defending champions, Asante Kotoko back into the title race for the Glo Premier League.

The Reds’ renaissance under coach Herbert Addo has seen them move to second on the standings, four points behind the leaders after a late Stephen Manu strike in the 89th minute helped them to a 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Coronation Park.

But while Kotoko continued piling on the pressure, Hearts of Oak’s slump in form continued all the way to the Swedru Park where they were beaten 3-1 by Gamba All Blacks.

Hearts drew first blood when Mahadi Abubakar opened the scoring but Bismark Idan equalized for the Black Magicians as Charles Ampiah made it 2-1 before the break.

The Phobians saw their hopes of even drawing further blown away as former player Joe Louis stunned his former club with the third goal which threw wide open the title race with five games left to play.

King Faisal beat Kessben FC 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium despite finishing the game with eight men. A brace from striker Samad Oppong helped Faisal take the third position with four points separating them from the top.

Heart of Lions threw away the chance to close in much further on the leaders after allowing Hasaacas to draw 2-2 after taking a two-nil lead at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.

All Stars were stunned at home as Real Tamale United finished the tie 2-1 winners against the Blues.

Akwasi Swalley and Kabiru Imoro were on target for RTU with Ben Acheampong grabbing a consolation for the Blues.

In-form AshantiGold beat Berekum Arsenals 2-0 at the Len Clay to gradually move out of the drop zone.

Emmanuel Adjetey and Frederick Quayson scored both goals to hand the Miners all the spoils.

Liberty Professionals came back from a goal down to beat Eleven Wise 2-1 at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman.

John Antwi opened the scoring for Wise but Yaw Antwi and Kamel Issah ensured that Liberty continued with their fine home run.

Tema Youth were 2-1 winners over bottom side Sporting Mirren at the Ohene Djan Stadium. Richard Annan put Tema Youth in the lead before Gado Moahammed made it 2-0.

However Mirren were handed consolation in the closing stages of the game as Emmanuel Lartey pulled one back.
