Coach Milovan Rajevac lamented the goal conceded by Ghana to Germany in the final Group D game but insists the Black Stars deserved their place in the round of 16.

Despite losing 1-0 to the Germans at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg Wednesday evening, the Black Stars secured their place in knockout phase on goal difference thanks to Australia's 2-1 victory over Serbia.

Ghana, the continent’s last real hope, controlled the first half failed to take the lead and back from recess, rather fell behind to a 60th minute Mesut Oezil strike.

"Germany are an excellent team, but at the end of the day, we deserve to be in the next round," Rajevac said after the game.

Though happy to reach the knockout phase with an upcoming game against United States, Rajevac was not pleased with the manner the Black Stars conceded the only goal of the match.

"We were tactically very disciplined, but we can’t be conceding a goal like that. They’re a good team, and they took advantage of the situation, but at the end of the day, it’s worked out well for us."

But the Ghana coach is now hoping that his side improves their finishing going into Saturday's game and score from open play with all two goals so far recorded by the team coming from the spot.

"I hope we’ll have the support of most of the South African people now. I hope we’ll benefit from the tremendous support here in South Africa. We created some great chances and were a shade unlucky with our finishing – perhaps we lacked focus.

"I hope we start scoring goals. I’m not thinking about the USA yet, we want to celebrate today’s achievement first."
