Senior women’s side, the Black Queens, would continue their quest for Africa’s single Olympic Games ticket when they the qualifying campaign begin this weekend on the continent.

Only four nations – Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and Ethiopia, are left in the last round of the qualifying series of the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games qualifiers which would see the Black Queens playing away to Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.

Ghana, seeking to make her debut in the women’s football competition at next year’s Olympic Games would be attempting to pull a win in the campaign which is a played on a round-robin basis spanning from July 2007 to March 2008 for the automatic slot.

Though a tricky and a tough test, assistant coach of the Black Queens, Dan Owusu remains confident of Ghana’s chances even though little is known about the North African nation.

“We know nothing about our opponents, but we will surely return at least with a point” assured Owusu.

The Black Queens over the weekend wrapped up preparations for the Olympic Games qualifier with victories over a select side drawn from both the Western and Central Regional women's league in two separate games.

The Black Queens won 3-1 in the first game and finished off a great exercise with a 1-0 defeat over the same side at Takoradi.

African champions, Nigeria the only African side to have participated at the quadrennial games treks down south to face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the other group game.

The top placed team at the end of the qualifying rounds secures the automatic spot for next year’s Olympic Games with the second placed team engaging Brazil in the play-off.
