
The Black Queens on Wednesday had their first training session ahead of the start of the 6th African Women Championship to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana’s team went through their paces some three hours after their arrival yesterday in Malabo with the competition set to begin on Saturday.
The Black Queens will play rivals, Nigeria, in their opening Group B match of the African Women's Championship on Sunday in Bata.
Adjoa Bayor, who is making a sixth Championship appearance, is expected to the Black Queens when they play rivals, Nigeria, who have won the past five events.
And Bayor is optimistic that Ghana can deny the usual suspects, Nigeria, another championship.
“We’ve always played second-fiddle to them (Nigeria) but as we start off the competition against the Falcons, we are very confident that we can end their dominance this year.
“The side has been improving and every time we have gotten closer. I believe we can make it this time,” the experienced Ghanaian captain said.
Despite the absence of Anita Amankwah through injury, Ghana coach, Mumuni Gamel who has blooded the team with some players from the Under-20 side, the Black Princesses, remains confident in the abilities of his 18-member squad.
The Black Queens been drawn together with Nigeria's Super Falcons in Group B which also includes South Africa and Tunisia.
In Group A, host, Equatorial Guinea are joined up by Cameroon, Mali and Congo-Brazzaville.
Ghana's group will play in Bata whilst matches in group A take place in the capital, Malabo.
The tournament kicks off on November 15 and runs till November 29.
