Ghana eased past Ivory Coast at Ohene Djan Stadium to book a place in the finals of the 6th African Women’s Championship with a resounding 3-0 home victory.

The Black Queens thus win the two-leg final round knockout tie on a 4-1 goal aggregate after drawing the first leg 1-1 fortnight ago.

Ghana joins some six other country’s to qualify for the Championship later in November.

The Black Queens went ahead with a goal from Ama Sabi before Anita Amankwah doubled Ghana’s lead to end the first half 2-0 while Florence Okoe scored the third in the second half.

Clearly, an improved show by the Black Queens compared to their first leg performance as they neutralised their opponents from the start of the game.

Ivory Coast came close on a couple of times but poor finishing denied them a goal.

A corner kick to Ghana saw captain, Adjoa Bayor laid a pass into the path of Ama Sabi in the 23rd minute and the attacker let go a drive which went straight into the net for the opener.

Seven minutes later, Anita Amankwah after exchanging passes with Gloria Oforiwaa caused some problems for the defence of the Mama Elephants and the young striker went ahead to slot in the second goal to end the first half, 2-0 for Ghana.

The second half started with Ghana pushing their opponents for the third goal. Five minutes into the start of the second session, Ghana were home and dry with Florence Okoe slotting in the third goal.

From the stage onwards, the Black Queens reduced the tempo of the game as their already subdued opponents struggled to break through the Ghana defence.

The wins means Ghana will make it a sixth appearance at the Championship to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea from November 15-29.
