Ghana sits comfortably at the summit of Group A in the African qualifiers for next year’s Olympic games.

But with a game to go, the Black Meteors are refusing to lay claim to the group’s sole ticket for the Olympic Games yet as they look ahead to mid-November, when Ghana host Nigeria in the final qualifier at home.

A win for Ghana would qualifier the Black Meteors, Africa’s first medalist in football at the Olympic Games for the Beijing Games.

After a Sunday’s 3-1 victory over South Africa, Black Meteors captain, Michael Helegbe admits the Beijing dream is in sight but says, that would be a reality when Nigeria is beaten in the race first.

Helegbe, however hopes the Nigerians who have two games to play would not be a stumbling block in Ghana’s path.

“We have finished with South Africa and it is left with Nigeria, so we have to prepare for them and when we win we will confirm our qualification to China,” the captain said.

The Guingamp attacker who shook off a thigh injury to play against South Africa hopes to pride himself with the fact that he would lead Ghana out to the Beijing Games, should the Black Meteors qualify.

“Being a captain comes with a lot of responsibilities as the whole nation looks up to you; so it would be a great achievement for me and my colleagues if we defeat Nigeria to book a place to Beijing- and I am sure that we can do it”.
